The intent of the Responsive Grant Funds is to provide funds to be used for new opportunities, urgent needs, pilot projects, or leveraging efforts that support the Commission’s Strategic Plan.
The Commission has allocated $3 million annually for responsive projects. To assure there will be available funds for emerging needs and opportunities through out the year, the Commission allocates one-half of its Responsive Funds to each 6-month period of the fiscal year.
 
A revised application for Responsive Funding is currently under development. Individuals interested in this funding opportunity should first read the Responsive Fund Requests policy (Policy Number CFC-016) to insure that the applicant organization meets the Eligibility Requirements and can adequately address the Policy Evaluation Criteria defined in the policy. To submit an application the following information shall be provided and submitted to the First 5 San Diego Commission office at 1495 Pacific Hwy, Suite 201, San Diego, CA 92101:

A cover letter addressed to Laura Spiegel, Executive Director, which describes an overview of the project, the dollar amount being requested and the period of time for which the funds will be used  

• A narrative that addresses each eligibility requirement (items a-d on page 2 of the policy)
• A narrative that addresses each policy evaluation criteria (items 1-12 on pages 1-2 of the policy)
• A project budget to include a line item for each expenditure
• A project budget narrative that includes a brief narrative explanation of how each line item of the budget was derived and a simple justification for each expense
• Verification of the organization’s non-profit status.

  
  An original and one copy of the application package should be submitted.
