San Diego will keep $88.4 Million, Appeal Period Ends for County’s First 5 Lawsuit

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — (March 20, 2012) –San Diego gets to keep $88.4 million the State would have otherwise swept.  A 60-day appeal period for the County’s First 5 Lawsuit against the State ended yesterday. 

“We are pleased to see these funds stay in San Diego County,” said Supervisor Bill Horn, Chair of the First 5 Commission of San Diego. “Now we can get back to funding local programs and services that meet the local needs of our County’s youngest children.”

First 5 Commission to Invest nearly $50 Million in Quality Preschool Services

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — (March 8, 2012) –With the goal to reduce the school readiness gap in San Diego County, the First 5 Commission of San Diego announced on March 5 the award of $47.1 million for three years to the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) to coordinate the First 5 San Diego Quality Preschool Initiative (QPI).
 
The new initiative, set to begin July 1, will build upon First 5 San Diego’s Preschool for All (PFA) Demonstration Project with expansion into a 12th community - Central San Diego.
 

Text4Baby Makes Important Health Connections

They say babies don’t come with an instruction manual, but thanks to an innovative program called text4baby, expectant and new mothers may have the next best thing.
 

Text4baby was launched by the National Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition to provide pregnant women and new moms with health and wellness information so their babies get the best possible start in life.
