Text 4 Baby - http://www.text4baby.org/ - Text4baby is a free mobile information service designed to promote maternal and child health. An educational program of the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB), text4baby provides pregnant women and new moms with information they need to take care of their health and give their babies the best possible start in life. Women who sign up for the service by texting BABY (or BEBE for Spanish) to 511411 will receive free text messages on a health topic each week, timed to their due date or baby’s date of birth.
San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative - http://ourcommunityourkids.org/ - The San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative is a public/private partnership whose mission is to reduce and prevent childhood obesity in San Diego County by creating healthy environments for all children and families through advocacy, education, policy development, and environmental change.
The National Children’s Study - http://www.nationalchildrensstudy.gov - The NCS is the largest child health study ever conducted in the United States and will follow 100,000 children from before birth to age 21 to identify genetic and environmental factors that contribute to health disorders and conditions of childhood and adulthood. Environment is defined broadly and includes everything from air, water, and soil to neighborhood characteristics, biological and chemical factors, and family and cultural influences. San Diego will begin asking families to participate later this year, with a goal of recruiting 1,000 participants.
